  • Review task vocabulary. Have learners write words to complete a mini-dictionary for the task. Practice the vocabulary by playing games such as Bingo, Memory, and Go Fish, and by completing crossword or word search puzzles.
  • Complete sentences by filling in the correct vocabulary word. Compare your sentences to a partner’s.
  • Incorporate phonics activities based on vocabulary words and other vocabulary related to the topic.
  • Review the present perfect. Practice saying things you have done in your life. Work with a partner and share things you have done and haven’t done, e.g. I have been to Africa. I have never seen a bear. I have eaten snake. I have never been to Ontario.
  • Play “I never.” Sit in a circle. Have all learners stand up. One learner says something they have done, such as I have been to Asia. Everyone who has never been to Asia must sit down. Go around the circle. The last learner standing wins.
  • Review relative clauses with when such as when your ID has been stolen, you must… Complete a variety of grammar worksheets to practice relative clauses with when.
  • Read a short story, instructor-made if necessary, about a person who has lost their ID and the steps they need to follow to replace it. Answer comprehension questions. Read the story multiple times over the course of several lessons to practice pronunciation, intonation, and fluency.
  • Listen to a dialogue between a police officer and a person whose ID has been stolen. Listen to the dialogue several times. Write words to complete a cloze exercise.
  • Review the cloze exercise and identify the steps you should take when you lose your ID. Work with a partner to complete a list of steps based on the dialogue.
